It may be worth a shot to see if M.Reflect will automatically compensate, truthfully I have never investigated that. I have always made sure that I went from identical capacities (or larger on the target drive) on both drives and never had a problem. I am not sure about restoring from a larger drive to a smaller I think that is where you are having problems.
I have never had that fail, and I do it constantly. After the full image is done, use your Reflect emergency boot DVD disk to re-image back onto your target drive. What I have done for years in M.Reflect is create a full image (not a clone) of the main partition(s) and the reserved partition.
